The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) was established in 1973 by the Treaty of Chaguaramas, signed by its founding member states, Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago. Today it has grown to 15 member states and five associated members. Its aims are to improve conditions through diplomatic dialogue, economic integration, cultural co-operation, collective security and social development initiatives.
