Conversation with the Blues: Material from the Paul Oliver Archive of African American Music

Title
Conversation with the Blues: Material from the Paul Oliver Archive of African American Music
Description
This online exhibition offers a glimpse into the POAAAM. Paul Oliver was the most important blues scholar of his time, pioneering research into the origins and development of the music. Importantly, he took a trip across the US in 1960, a time of segregation, and spoke directly to grassroots African American blues musicians about their music, at a time when discussion about blues in the media was dominated by white voices. It was important to him that the musicians themselves were heard. The POAAAM library has about 2500 books and journals on blues music and related music genres and topics, and we also hold his archive of photographs, research papers, thousands of vinyl records, and audio recorded interviews.
