The Scott Polar Research Institute, established in 1920, is part of the University of Cambridge, the Institute is the oldest international centre for Polar Research within a university. SPRI is a centre of excellence in the study of the Arctic and Antarctic.

The Institutes polar archive holds one of the largest collections of manuscript and photographic material relating to British activity in the Arctic and Antarctic, and to many persons who have lived and worked there. It provides a documentary record of all aspects of life, travel and work in the polar regions.
