Description
Cambridgeshire Archives Service operates two archive centres, Huntingdonshire Archives, which holds records of the former county of Huntingdonshire and Cambridgeshire Archives which holds records of Cambridgeshire and the former Isle of Ely. We serve the informational needs of individuals, communities and local authorities by collecting, preserving, promoting and providing access to the county’s rich and varied historical archives. We hold over 20 million records (7 miles of shelving) of parish and other churches, local organisations, businesses, charities and societies, public records including coroners’ records, court records, hospital records, estates, manors, families and individuals whose activities are relevant to the history and life of Cambridgeshire from 13th century to present day e.g. Cambridge Womens’ Suffrage Association, Fulbourn Lunatic Asylum/Hospital, Bedford Level Corporation (drainage of the Fens), Petty and Quarter Sessions Court and much more.
