Description
-
The University of Reading’s Museums and Collections include Special Collections, Art Collections, The Museum of English Rural Life, and more.
The University of Reading’s Special Collections holds over 80,000 rare books and 5 kilometres of archives, the result of more than a century of collecting. The rare book collections range from fifteenth-century incunables to twentieth-century Ladybird books and cover subjects including natural history, science and medicine, and children’s literature. Systematic collecting of publishers’ archives since the 1960s laid the foundation for our nationally significant Archive of British Printing and Publishing. The collections also include local business and politicians’ papers and writers’ and artists’ papers, most notably the world’s largest collection of resources relating to Samuel Beckett.
The Location Register has become established as a standard reference source for the study of English literature. It includes information about the manuscript holdings of around 500 British and Irish repositories (from the British Library to small-town museums), and literary authors of all genres (from major poets to minor science fiction writers and romantic novelists).
Writers, Artists and Their Copyright Holders (WATCH) is a database of copyright holders for authors, artists, photographers, designers and many more roles in the creative industries. Researched by the team at Reading, WATCH is part of the recommended due diligence process for finding copyright holders.
