Reflections on the In the Grip of Change online exhibition

Title
Reflections on the In the Grip of Change online exhibition
Date
8 October 2025
Description
For Black History Month 2025, this panel discussion reflected on the 'In the Grip of Change: the Caribbean and its British diaspora' exhibition that took place at Senate House Library from 29 October 2024 to 12 April 2025. The exhibition was made available as an online exhibition, in celebration of Windrush Day 2025. Bringing together a distinguished panel of speakers with personal, family and professional connections to the items featured in the exhibition, we reflected on the objects' histories and their relevance and impact today.

Speakers included:

Dr Juanita Cox (co-curator of the In the Grip of Change exhibition)
Luke Daniels (President of Caribbean Labour Solidarity)
Amelia Gentleman (award-winning Guardian journalist and author of The Windrush Betrayal: Exposing the Hostile Environment)
Michael La Rose (Director of New Beacon Books)
Erica Williams-Connell (daughter of Eric Williams, Trinidad and Tobago’s late first Prime Minister and eminent historian)
