Photograph of May Day rally

Title
Photograph of May Day rally
Description
The strikes held throughout the West Indies in the first half of the 20th century led to the grass-roots establishment of trade unions and political parties. Agitation across the West Indies reflected growing demands for independence, as seen in this photograph of a 1956 rally in Jamaica. It was organised by People's Freedom Movement and the Jamaican Federation of Trade Unions.
